| Orchid Judging Rules |
|
Bring your blooming orchid plants to the CSOS meetings to be judged. Be proud of your growing efforts and share them with the CSOS members and guests. The Judging Committee requests that your plants be on the plant judging tables and ready to be judged by 7:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting. You must have owned your orchid plant for a minimum of 6 months. Present your plant in an attractive container, stake the plant to maximize the blooms, and add a legible plant name tag to make a winning combination. Place your orchid in a judging category on the table and fill out an orchid ID form for the judges. If you need help choosing a category, ask a Judging Committee member for assistance. When evaluating an orchid, the judges will compare it with all others of the same type that they have seen. They will consider color, size, shape, and substance (thickness), as well as the way the flowers are growing on the stem. Please - No plants with pests! In addition to a blue ribbon for First Place in each category and a pink ribbon for a Special Award, a yellow ribbon for Cultural Merit may be awarded to a plant, which is an outstanding orchid specimen that has enjoyed ideal growing conditions. If you have an orphan (no ID name) orchid in bloom, bring it along for judging. We will judge it in a separate category, using the same criteria, and even try to help you identify and name your plant. We are all about growing orchids and recognizing BLOOMERS, from tiny species to big hybrids. The plant judging tables should be filled with the pride and joy of CSOS members’ plants. Good luck and good growing! |
